Ethereum altcoins. Beyond the ticker.
Keep contract identity, token metadata, event observations, and derived views connected—but clearly distinct.
Start with the network and complete contract address. Add labels for people, exact raw values for calculations, and block context for history. The result is a data model that can explain a token record without pretending every contract behaves identically.
What to define
Contract identity
Use the network and address—not a shared display symbol—as the matching key.
Exact amounts
Retain raw integer representations and known decimal precision.
Event context
Preserve transaction, block, and log identifiers with the decoding version.
Let optional metadata stay optional
ERC-20 treats name, symbol, and decimals as optional methods. An unavailable field must remain distinguishable from an observed empty value or zero. Our internal ERC-20 reference note describes these interface details; the sample dictionary shows a proposed missing-data policy rather than a universal token behavior.
Reconcile derived views
A transfer-event history and a state observation are different kinds of information. Validate any reconstructed balance model against the contracts in scope. Record the assumptions, comparison context, and discrepancies so that a downstream user can distinguish a reconciled result from an incomplete reconstruction.
Plan for changed observations
Revised history needs stable identities and an explicit correction path. Metadata revisions should not replace the identity of a contract, and duplicate deliveries should not inflate activity counts. Include these cases in the pilot before agreeing broader history, delivery requirements, and permitted uses.
